Upper Mustang Trek

Overview

Mustang was opened in 1992 for tourists situated in the north of the Annapurna Mountain. It was a former Buddhist Kingdom and rich and full of culture and heritage. The trek takes you into the remote Mustang valley through an ancient salt trading caravan trail into one of the less trekked areas of Nepal. It gives you an opportunity to experience the traditional local villages; Buddhist culture; stunning views of Himalayan ranges and rocky plateaus.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Welcome to Kathmandu.

If Sky is clear, prior to landing to Tribhuvan Int’l airport you will be greeted with heavenly snow-capped mountains. After customs clearance, you will be welcomed by our tour coordinator and transferred to the hotel.

Day 02: Preparation at Kathmandu.

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara.

Early morning scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara; the city of natural beauty. Check into hotel.

Day 04: Fly to Jomsom and Trek to Kagbeni.

Early morning fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (2800m) over the Himalayan ranges and after landing in Jomsom airport in lower Mustang, prepare gear for trekking to Kagbeni. The trail follows Kali Gandaki valley where black stone (fossil) is found which is called Shaligram and it is worshiped by Hindu devotees as a form of Vishnu; the God of Preserver. It gives the backdrop of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri mountain views. The path ascends and descends to Ekle Bhatti and reaches Kagbeni; located at Kaligandaki valley. It is a gateway to Upper Mustang region. Stay at the tea house; Kagbeni.

Day 05: Trek to Chusang.

After breakfast trek climbs up through a caravan terrain to Chusang; the village with a medieval atmosphere. The rocky hill has a number of caves and still, people live here. Many caves are found along the Kaligandaki river and they are often ten meters above the river shore. Stay at Teahouse; Chusang.

Day 06: Trek to Gilling (Alt: 3600m).

After breakfast trek commences through a unique highland terrain; passes canyons; steep cliff; Samar village; crosses Baga La (3870m) and Yanda La pass and reaches at Gilling village ( 3600 m); the colorful village. Stay at a tea house in Gilling.

Day 07: Trek to Nyi-La Pass (Alt: 3950m).

After breakfast trek commences through a beautiful village; climb up a gentle slope with shrubberies and passing Nyi- La Pass (3950m); the highest point of trekking and enter into the center of Lo- region; Mustang. The trail descends a gentle slope from the passes; then climb up the path and reach Ghami village surrounded by stone walls. It gives you the outstanding views of Annapurna Himalayan ranges. Stay at a tea house in Ghami (3520m).

Day 08: Trek to Tsarang (Alt: 3500m).

After breakfast trek commences through rocky terrain along with farm terrace to Tsarang ( 3500 m). You can enjoy with beautiful colorful villages; real lifestyles of inhabitants; Buddhist monasteries; Stay at the tea house.

Day 09: Trek to Lo-Manthang (Alt: 3700m).

After breakfast trek commences through exotic rocky meadows and farm terrace; cross the river and pass many caves on the terrace as the trail climbs up to the Dang- La ( 3900 m); then it descends to Lo- Manthang ( 3700m); the Buddhist Kingdom full of culture and a religious heritage site.

Day 10: Explore Lo-Manthang.

Day 11: Start of return trek.

Trek from Lo- Manthang to Tsarang. Stay at the tea house.

Day 12: Trek from Tsarang to Gilling.

Stay at the tea house.

Day 13: Trek from Ghiling to Chusang.

Stay at the tea house.

Day 14: Trek from Chusang to Jomsom.

Stay at the lodge.

Day 15: Fly Back to Pokhara.

Take an early morning flight from Jomsom to Pokhara and check into the hotel.

Day 16: Drive Back to Kathmandu.

Early morning scenic drive or 30 minutes fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Check into hotel.

Day 17: Farewell.

You will be leaving with the memory of adventurous journey of the lifetime. We’ll make sure to turn the days to your most memorable moments of life.
