Bhutan Druk Path Trek

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Welcome to Kathmandu.

If sky clear, prior to landing in Tribhuvan International Airport, you could enjoy with magnificent views of snowy mountains, after customs clearance, you will meet with our tour coordinator and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu.

After breakfast, visit ancient and historical Kathmandu Durbar Square, the city veiled with full of monuments and beautiful architecture, explore Kumari Ghar, the residence of living Goddess and finally visit Swayambhunath, situated lush Kathmandu hills that provides views of Kathmandu valley and drive back to the hotel.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Paro and Transfer to the hotel.

Early morning fly from Kathmandu to Paro over the Panoramic Himalayan ranges, arrive at Paro Airport, you will meet with our representative and transfer to hotel. Stay in Paro.

Day 04: Excursion to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger Nest).

Enjoy with a day excursion to Taktsang Monastery, drive up to Satsam Chorten (10 km from Paro town) and from there walk up to Taktsang Monastery. The name Taktsang means “Tiger’s Nest ". The Monastery clings to a vertical granite cliff drop of nearly 4000 ft. and overlooks the Paro valley and the river. It is said that in the second half of the 8th century, Guru Padma Sambhava known as the second Buddha in Bhutan meditated on this spot where the Monastery is situated having alighted there on the back of a flying tigress. Picnic lunch at the Taktsang cafeteria. The round hike takes about 4 hrs.

Day 05: Explore Paro.

visit Drugyal Dzong (a ruined fortress), 16 kilometers away from Paro town. Although it has been in ruin this Dzong has its great historical importance for the people of Bhutan. It was a place where the Bhutanese finally defeated the Tibetan invasion and drove them back. On a clear day, one can view the sacred Mt. Jumolhari (Mountain of Goddess). Its altitude is 7,329m. Visit Kyichu Lhakhang (Lhakhang means temple). Which was built in 659 AD by the King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet as one of the 108 such monasteries he built in various places to spread Buddhism. It is located between Paro Town and Drugyal Dzong. It is one of the holiest places in the country, as it marks the advent of Buddhism in the country. visit National Museum which used to be a watchtower for Paro Rinpung Dzong (Fortress). It was converted into Museum in 1968. Visit Paro Rinpung Dzong, the Dzong was built in 1646 AD, and walk down to town one the way you can see the traditional wood bridge of ancient style. Visit a typical Bhutanese farmhouse and sightseeing trip to the Paro town. Stay in a hotel in Paro.

Day 06: Paro-Jele Dzong Trek ( 3436 m).

Distance 10 km; Time 3 - 4 hrs. Today is a short trek. Visit the Ta Dzong National Museum before beginning the trek along with Druk Path to Jele Dzong. If the sky is clear, the Paro valley and the snow-capped mountains can be seen. The campsite is near the old Jele Dzong. If the caretaker is there you can visit the Dzong. Night camping in Jele.

Day 07: Trek from Jele Dzong to Jangchu Lakha ( 3960 m).

Distance 09km, walking 4-5 hrs. Commence trek through thick alpine forest and rhododendron trees, most of the walking is up and down that provides excellent views of Mt. Jumolhari.

Day 08: Trek from JangchuLkha to Lake Jimelang Tsho (3706 m).

Distance 16 km, walking 6-7 hours. Short climbs and passes through thick alpine forest and rhododendron trees and gradually walking up till you reach camp site. The trail provides spectacular views of mountains and beautiful valley. Night camping at Jimelang Tsho.

Day 09: Trek from Jimelang Tsho to Simkotra Lake (3834 m).

Distance- 5 hrs. Commence trek along with Druk Path to Simkotra lake, the trail leads through dwarf rhododendron forest and passes Jane Tsho Lake, some yak herder’s camps that receive the chance how they live. Night camping at Simikotra.

Day 10: Trek from Simikotra to Thimphu ( 3536 m).

Distance- 07 hrs. Commence trek with a gradual climb, if the sky is clear, you will enjoy with magnificent views of Mount Gangkhar Puensum, the highest mountain in Bhutan and other Himalayan mountains from Dochula Pass. The path gradually descends till Phajoding, where the monastery and the retreat centers for meditation are located. Check into hotel in Thimphu.

Day 11: Drive from Thimpu to Paro.

Enjoy with the day to visit sights of Thimphu including memorial Chorten, built in memory of the 3rd King of Bhutan who reigned the kingdom from 1952-1972 which stupa was built in 1974. traditional Handicrafts emporium and exotic heritage museum, then drive to Paro and check into the hotel.

Day 12: Fly from Paro to Kathmandu and Transfer to the hotel.

After breakfast fly from Paro to Kathmandu over the Himalayan ranges and arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, after customs clearance, you will meet with our tour coordinator and transfer to hotel.

Day 13: Leisure in Kathmandu.

Day 14: Farewell.

You will be leaving with the memory of adventurous journey of the life time. We’ll make sure to turn the days to your most memorable moments of life.

  • Twin-sharing tents, (hard mattress and foam mattress each person), English speaking guide and meals (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner).
  • During the Nepal tour twin-sharing accommodation on B/B basis at 3* categories hotel as per itinerary, sightseeing tour as per itinerary with English speaking tour guide, city entrance fees and Deluxe private land transport as per itinerary.
  • During the Bhutan tour Twin-sharing accommodation in the best tourist standard hotel on full board basis, land transfer as per itinerary, city entrance fees . and internal flight ticket. ( KTM/PBH/KTM).

What's not included?

  • All kind of personal nature expenses such as tips, liquors & soft drinks, travel insurance, city, and monuments entrance fees during the sightseeing in Kathmandu. Bhutan visa charges $ 50.
  • Single supplement charges. Any loss or expenses arising due to unforeseen circumstances such as ROAD BLOCKAGE due to landslides or snowfalls or political problems, FLIGHT DELAYS OR CANCELLATION due to weather or technical problems, ACCIDENTS, etc.
